Outpatient Procedures

Salem Regional Medical Center's (SRMC) Outpatient Procedures department provides patients a more efficient way to see their doctors or have procedures done. Services provided in this area are performed on an outpatient basis and do not require an overnight hospital stay. A wide range of specialized outpatient treatments and procedures are available by physician referral, including:

Procedures Performed by SRMC's Staff

The following procedures can be scheduled for patients with a physician's order, and are performed by SRMC's clinical staff:

Regular medication injections for managing chronic health conditions. Treatments include:

Allergy therapy
Medications to prevent blood clots
Special therapies to increase the body's production of red blood cells, which may be reduced by    kidney failure, cancer or certain medications
Intravenous (IV) antibiotic therapy

Vaccines to protect against diseases such as:
Cervical cancer caused by human papillomavirus (Gardasil® vaccine)
Hepatitis, a serious liver disease
Tetanus, a bacterial disease that affects the nervous system
Rabies (following initial vaccination in SRMC's Emergency Department)

Other services provided include pulse oximetry, weight checks, culture collection and Foley catheter insertion.

Physician-Scheduled Procedures

Physicians can schedule use of SRMC's Outpatient Procedures area for patient visits or for the following minor surgeries and procedures:
Biopsies and growth removals
Care of wounds and skin abscesses
Removal of excess fluids from the abdomen and lungs

Pain Clinic Procedures

Mark Peckman, D.O., a Pain Management physician affiliated with SRMC's medical staff, provides a variety of specialized therapies for managing chronic or acute pain occurring as a result of arthritis, neck and back problems, herniated disks, stenosis, nerve disorders, cancer, fibromyalgia and shingles. These procedures include:

Nerve blocks and pain blocks
Epidural and trigger point injections

(Note: Patient clinic visits to Dr. Peckman are provided in Physician Clinic A, located on SRMC's ground floor)

Hours and Scheduling

SRMC's Outpatient Procedures department is open Monday - Friday, from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; and Saturdays, from 7 a.m. - noon.

All services must be scheduled in advance by calling the hospital's appointment desk at 330-332-7300, so that SRMC can accommodate our patients and avoid extended waiting times. A physician's order must be provided for procedures that SRMC staff will perform.

When You Arrive

Patients arriving for scheduled appointments in Outpatient Procedures should first report to Outpatient Registration, located on the hospital's ground floor, just past the Main Lobby. After their registration process is completed, patients will be directed to the Outpatient Procedures department.
