Diabetes Education and Support

Did you know...
More than 10% of Ohioans have diabetes?

If you are living with the challenges of diabetes, Salem Regional Medical Center offers the following support:

►Adult Diabetes Self-Management Program

Nationally-recognized by the American Diabetes Association, these classes are for patients diagnosed with diabetes and their families. Led by a registered nurse and a registered and licensed dietitian, educational topics include:

  • Effects of diabetes on the body
  • Meal planning
  • How and when to monitor blood sugar
  • Diabetes medications
  • Activity and exercise
  • Problem solving
  • Stress management

►Individual Counseling

As part of the Adult Diabetes Self-Management Program, individual diabetes or nutrition education counseling is available on an “as needed” basis.

►Enrollment and Health Plan Coverage

A physician's referral is required to enroll in the program. The program’s cost may be covered by your insurance plan and/or Medicare. Please contact SRMC’s Diabetes Educator for additional information.

►Diabetes Support Group

SRMC’s free Diabetes Support Group offers people with diabetes an opportunity to share their experiences, receive diabetes education and learn from guest speakers. The support group meets at Salem Regional Medical Center. A physician's referral is not required to participate.
